Did you know that your heart and soul have a bunch of information locked up tight inside them? And that you hold the keys to open them up and reveal to yourself some hidden truths, including what your dreams are? Well, that might seem pretty weird, but it’s true!
Today’s thought is brought to you by an experience I am having right now, at the very moment of writing this.
I have felt stuck all week, not being sure what to write about. I have a dozen or so half-written drafts that I would pull up and work on, then move to another one because I wasn’t really “feeling it”.
I even have a fully written post, all ready to hit “publish”! And being late in the afternoon on Saturday (and needing to have something posted by Sunday night!), I thought I would just go ahead and use that one. However, when I read through it, I just couldn’t get myself to do it.
I pretty much follow my feelings rather than my thoughts when it comes to writing, and my heart said “no” to all of the above.
So what am I left with, if I’m not going to use an idea that’s already started? I need to start from scratch.
Which, as you know means to start from the beginning.
So, in that case, let’s go the VERY beginning!
Well, our lives are full of beginnings, so which beginning am I referring to?
My beginning of learning to see not only myself, but the whole world in a new way. Basically, it’s like I had a magic carpet ride with Alladin!
It was November of 2019, and my mother invited me to go to a “gratitude class” being taught in someone’s home. At the class, the teacher recommended some books, one being “Count Your Blessings” by John F. Demartini.
I didn’t plan to read any of the books she suggested, but somehow I ended up with that one in my hands. And there was an exercise in it that opened up my heart and got things churning.
I’d like to share that same exercise with you, taken straight from the book!
But first, I guess I’d better tell you the point of it.
In a nutshell, Martini says that everyone has a dream, but most people are unaware of theirs. So the exercise is to help you become conscious of yours.
Now, I’m not really one to “find a comfortable place to sit, and close my eyes…” yadda, yadda, yadda… You know what I’m talking about!
I thought that if there’s a dream in my heart, I’ll just do some thinking and find it on my own terms. The last thing I wanted to do was “sit quietly, and take a few deep breaths…”
I knew right off the bat that I had a dream of making and selling kids “detective/cipher activities” online. I planned out what I would do, and how I would market them. It all sounded so fun until I realized how much work would be involved.
I soon decided that I did not want to make a whole business out of this, but rather I just wanted to make up one activity for my own kids just for fun! So I did.
But still… I wanted to find my dream.
Ah, then it hit me! I have always loved magic (did you know that I am a real magician?! Yeah -I am!)
Through the years I have performed magic shows for small groups (you know, birthday parties, boy scout banquets, Halloween parties, etc.) here and there, all for free and fun. And I was ready to take it to the next level! I decided that my dream was to start advertising and get some paid gigs.
But again… when I really thought of what that looked like, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted. I still love performing magic, but it’s going to stay in the “just for fun” box.
I thought some more about what my dream could be, and then I finally decided that I would do the silly little exercise after all.
I still wasn’t excited about it, haha. But I was curious enough and didn’t know what else to do.
I read through the instructions again and followed them to a T (I figured that if I’m gonna do it, I’d better not try to take any more shortcuts, haha).
So I did it…
And I’m so glad!
Having the dream of my heart be revealed to me, opened up more than just “knowing something that I want to do”.
It literally opened up my heart! The same way a child’s heart is open to fantasies and imagination!
It has been so fun to believe in new possibilities and expand my power of creation. Even though I’m not a bird, I think this is the same feeling as when they take flight for the first time.
I am forever grateful for every event leading up to this point in my life, and I am thrilled to be able to share the exercise with you. I hope you will learn from my silliness and not try to skip any steps! Just go straight to the weird stuff and get it done!
So without further ado, I present to you the instructions for how to find the dream of your heart!
“Sit in a comfortable chair and begin to count your blessings. Think of everything and everyone for whom you feel true gratitude. Keep your mind and thoughts focused on your moments of gratefulness until your eyes fill with tears of inspiration. Then ask your inner voice to reveal an inspired dream to you.” (pg. 62)
I found it helpful to also close my eyes.
Make sure you know all the steps before you begin. Once you get into a meditative state, you won’t want to break it by having to look up what to do next.
When I did this, I forgot about the part of “waiting for tears of inspiration to fill my eyes” and after I listed many things I was grateful for, I thought to myself “so….when am I supposed to ask…?”
I didn’t really know what to do, so I just kept thinking of things and people I loved and soon enough I started to cry. That’s when I remembered that tears were my cue!
So make sure you wait for that signal!
I hope you have a great experience with this. Be patient and don’t try to rush the process. No shortcuts. Keep your eyes closed. Lock the door first. After you “ask”, wait as long as it takes until you get your answer.
If you feel like the answer is not coming, you could probably go deeper into gratitude by continuing your thoughts and feelings and then try asking again.
I’m not the expert on this, so I’m not really sure. But I do absolutely know that your soul holds all the answers about yourself, and I know that you have the power to unlock them.
It’s there, and you can find it.

Love you my friend
